Diary from Latvia

Dear friends!

The very nice and lovely visitor from Australia has already visited in Smiltene for half a year. His name is Aussy and he is light brown with shining eyes and very warm heart. He has visited many houses and many families, he has known much about Latvian traditions, history, and culture. Aussy has traveled to many towns and cities of Latvia, he has been even in Germany!

Aussy and children have made a lot of naughty things together, they have eaten many sweets and sometimes they have got in some trouble.

But what is the most useful thing - the children get more lovely, more kindly to each other, they try to see their world with eyes of somebody else and we must say thanks our Aussy and this idea about the teddy - bears changing. The point of the matter is to have a look to ourselves and maybe think a little about our life, about what could we change in it, to compare the life - style in different countries and teach the children to understand other people all over the world, their customs and traditions.

We send you many kind regards from Smiltene and our school, our parents and our brothers and sisters!

Aussy in Germany.

Last Friday (May 8) at 11. 00, the choir of our school went to Germany. We went there through Lithuania and Poland. Aussy went to Germany with us. The host families waited for us. On Sunday Aussy went to the movie "Titanic". At the end of the film Aussy was crying. On Monday Aussy went to German school. After it we went to swimming - pool and Aussy too. We had very much fun there! Next day we went to Diseldorf and we went there across the Reina`s bridge.

We were in cartodrom and we had competition , where Aussy got the first place. Aussy thought it was nice. On Friday we went back to Latvia. We all are enjoed about our trip and Aussy too.

Returning home, Aussy thought about Germany`s hills and the great river Reina.

Aussy`s favourite meals.

The cooking is Aussy`s one of the most lovely occupations. Aussy thinks, that he must eat only sweets, because he is a bear - gourmand. Together with Aussy, we made one - day menu with Aussy`s most loved meals, such as: apple pie, chocolate ice - cream and bubert. Every day Aussy must eat honney sandwich, too, to be strong, energatic and active.

One day nobody was at home, and Aussy ate some medicine by accident, because he thought these were sweets. Then his belly started to ache. When we went home, he was craing. Then he said: "Never, never I will eat unsavoury sweets." It was Aussy`s the most unpleasant adventure in Smiltene with sweets.

Photoserial about Aussy`s adventures.

Five boys Atis, Edgars, And_ejs, Janis and Maris prepared a photoserial about Aussy. Edgars and Andzejs traveled with Aussy from the school to "Ozols" saussage shop and the sweet shop, where Aussy ate sweets. After sweets eating some of Aussy`s teeth began to hurt, therefore he had to go to the dentist. The dentist was nice and the procedure was not hurt! After this procedure they went to see The Music School of Smiltene, there they could see the memorial stone to Krishjanis Barons. They were in the Old park. There Aussy climbed up on the biggest stone and could not get down. They also visited the café of the Red Cross hospital of Smiltene. Maris, Atis and Janis made the album with photographies.

The biggest gourmand - Aussy.

1. On one nice, sunny day Aussy wanted honey.

2. But honey was overhead in the shelf. He thought a little, and then saw beside him a chair.

3. He took the chair and climbed on. He wanted honey, very much, but he didn't get it.

4. Aussy tried to take honey, but suddenly he fell. He was all around in the honey. Aussy was sad.

5. He was thinking what would he say to housekeeper, when she will came home.

6. The housekeeper came. She saw all trouble what was happened with Aussy. Aussy looked at her with sad eyes, but housekeeper just laughed.

7. The housekeeper said - It's O.K. Those things happened. Aussy was glad and they both started to laugh.

Travelling to the hospital

The bell rang , when And_ejs woke up from narcosis in Smiltene hospital.

It happened on 18 th December one day before the Christmas party of our class (farm). When we all arrived, we went to visit And_ejs. Aussy went with us of course. He was afraid. Term`s report was taken by Aussy and the present by the children.

And_ejs was glad, that Aussy came, too. We entered into And_ejs room two or three at a time. Aussy went the first. After we had visited And_ejs, we returned to our classroom Aussy stayed with And_ejs. And_ejs told him about bad smell, that caused headache. Aussy didn`t like food at the hospital very much.

When And_ejs left the hospital, he told about time he passed there. Ausijs was afraid of injections, but during the last days he wasn't so timid anymore.

Trip to the theatre.

We went to Riga. We went to the play "Aladin`s magick lamp" there. Aussy went, to the theatre, too. Aussy saw Riga and he met many children. Before theatre, he ate ice-cream in the theatre`s café. We went to big hall with Aussy. We sat and suddenly lights turned out. Aussy cried out loud. He liked this play and Aladin, too.

After the play we took our coats, and went out. Aussy wanted to buy something for himself.

When we were on our way home, we played various games and he liked it very much. We all were very satisfied about our trip to Riga. And Aussy wants to go somewere else.
