About Sunbury Primary School

Sunbury Primary School can trace its origins back to 1869 and was the first school to be established in the area. Today the school is one of eleven state and private schools within the Sunbury area. In June 1999, the school was relocated from its Macedon Street site (established in 1911) to Jacksons Hill, a new residential development area on the southern boundary of Sunbury.

The school is housed in attractive, refurbished, heritage-listed bluestone and weatherboard buildings in a treed environment. The heritage buildings and landscape provide a first class learning environment, a unique blend of old charm and modern facilities. The school facilities include well-appointed classrooms, specialist art and music rooms (including instrumental music), a library, a large hall and a centre for parents. A computer network allows the use of a range of software and provides students and staff with links across the school and with the Internet.

In the school grounds, students have access to an oval, basketball courts, tennis courts, shaded and passive recreation areas and playground equipment designed by the students. Students have completed stage one of the school's sculpture garden, featuring a birdbath, hedge and mosaic tiled path.

The school's enrolment of 250 is expected to continue to rise gradually during the next few years.
