During Arbor week (arbor means trees) they would go on a walk
(excursion) up Elizabeth Drive. They would have to make notes about
what birds they saw, but they turned it into bird watching
instead.
Each year on the 24th May for Empire Day they would hold a concert in
the Memorial Hall. They would practice for weeks and weeks before and
they would sing accompanied by Miss Rogers playing the piano. Each
person would represent a country. Mr. Barr represented Australia and
held the Australian flag. The boy behind him represented South Africa
and he held a piece of box thorn. The boy holding the box thorn
behind Mr. Barr stabbed him in the backside with it and Mr. Barr
jumped forward and had to start reciting his poem when it wasn't his
turn.

They used to have bags that they would hang over their shoulders to carry their books in.
