Antarctica project

One of our projects was e-mailing a person called Darryn who is a physicist in Antarctica. We have been in contact with Darryn since the 15th of August 1996, when we met over the telephone during an excursion to the Maritime Museum.

Here is the view from Darryn's window, at Casey base.

This is a "Nodwell" over snow vehicle, used like a truck, at Casey Base.

This is the RMIT trailer which is like a caravan, with a stove and gas bottle. It is towed along when the scientists have to go a long way from the base.

Update: March '97

Darryn returned by ship back to Australia. He called in to see us on his way home to Canberra. (He is the one in the middle.) We exchanged gifts and he told us about life in Antarctica.

Italian Keypals

We wrote to students in Italy in 1996. We sent letters to them in Italian and they replied in English. We also sent photographs of our school grounds.

Living History

Some students from our class interviewed a man named Mr Barr, who went to our school 80 years ago. Click here to read their report.
